As a female artist, MC, DJ, and actress, I’ve had the privilege of standing on stages around the world, using my voice and creative energy to inspire change and uplift others. But beneath the surface of this powerful journey, there’s a harsh reality that too many women in the entertainment industry face: a blatant lack of respect.
Let’s get real for a moment.
Whether you're an emerging artist or a seasoned veteran, being a woman in this industry can often feel like you’re constantly walking a tightrope. On one hand, you're expected to be creative, to share your gift, and to stay true to yourself. But on the other hand, you’re also expected to play by rules that were never designed for you in the first place.
Over-Sexualization: The Price of Visibility
There’s a painful truth that women in entertainment know all too well—we’re often seen as commodities before we’re recognized as creatives. I’ve watched as female entertainers are encouraged, or even pressured, to hyper-sexualize themselves just to get noticed. In many cases, it’s not enough to be talented, driven, or innovative—you have to become a walking fantasy for someone else’s desires.
And if you don’t play the game, you get labeled: “difficult,” “boring,” or “not marketable.” This is something I’ve always found disdainful.
The entertainment industry has created a narrow box for women to fit into—either you present yourself as overly sexual or you risk being overlooked entirely. But what about the women who want to let their art speak for itself? What about the women whose voices, talents, and skills deserve the spotlight without having to sacrifice their self-respect or their principles?
It’s frustrating that so many of us have to fight against these damaging norms, while male counterparts are rarely held to the same standards. We shouldn’t have to exploit our bodies to be seen as valuable.
The "Mob Boss" Persona: Trading Authenticity for Respect
On the flip side of the sexualization spectrum is another toxic expectation placed on women in entertainment: the need to adopt a "mob boss" persona. Women often feel like they have to be hyper-aggressive, cutthroat, and "one of the boys" just to get their ideas respected or their voices heard.
And while being assertive is important, it shouldn't mean losing touch with your feminine energy, your compassion, or your authenticity. But the reality is that the industry tends to respect ruthlessness and intimidation over collaboration and vulnerability—particularly from women.
I’ve seen too many women entertainers forced to suppress their true personalities to be taken seriously. They have to be louder, tougher, and more calculating than they would naturally be, just to prove that they belong in the room. Why? Because being a woman in this industry is often equated with weakness, unless you adopt this exaggerated toughness. That’s not freedom. That’s not empowerment. That’s survival in a system that wasn’t built to honor us.
Breaking the Chains: Freeing the Chi of Female Creatives
As women entertainers, we are more than just our bodies or how tough we can pretend to be. We are creators, thinkers, storytellers, and innovators. It’s time that the industry starts to reflect the full complexity of who we are.
My journey has been one of standing firmly in my truth, embracing my feminine power, and rejecting the limiting boxes the entertainment industry tries to put us in. And I know many other women are on this same journey of self-liberation.
This is why I’m so passionate about ‘Freeing Your Chi’ —because freeing your chi means liberating your authentic self. It means rejecting the pressures to fit into someone else’s mold, and instead, standing in your power as a creative, as a woman, and as a leader.
Moving Forward: Empowering Future Generations of Female Entertainers
The sad truth is that the challenges we face as women in entertainment have been around for far too long. But the good news is, there’s a growing movement of female artists, producers, and leaders who are pushing back. We’re saying “no” to being over-sexualized for marketability. We’re rejecting the idea that we have to behave like ruthless mob bosses just to be taken seriously.
I want to see a world where future generations of female entertainers can walk into their careers with confidence, knowing that they don’t have to compromise who they are to be successful. A world where women can bring their full selves to the table—creative, powerful, feminine, bold—and be celebrated for it.
I am here to be that voice for change. Not just for myself, but for every woman who’s been told she needs to dim her light or conform to a version of herself that isn’t authentic. This is the essence of my Free Your Chi movement: freeing ourselves from the limiting beliefs, pressures, and false expectations that weigh us down.
We have the power to shift the narrative. The industry needs to wake up to the reality that we don’t need to hyper-sexualize ourselves or adopt hardened personas to thrive. We need to be seen, respected, and valued for our creativity, talent, and spirit.
So, I’m asking you, my fellow artists, fans, and allies—let’s continue to push for a world where women entertainers don’t have to fight for respect. Let’s use our collective voice to demand change, so that all of us can free our chi and stand in our full power.
